What is PARKINSON'S DISEASE? A neurological disease, common among the elderly. It causes hand tremors and makes simple gestures such as lifting a cup of tea difficult. The symptoms of Parkinson's disease include reduced movement, slow movements, curved and unstable posture, muscle stiffness, and tremor at rest. Also, a change in facial expression that makes the person affected look unemotional like wearing a mask. Parkinson's disease is caused by the malfunction of a particular group of brain cells called substantia nigra, that releases the neurotransmitter dopamine that controls movement and coordination. In many patients, Parkinson's can be controlled with dopamine and other drugs, but these treatments do not stop the disease from progressing. | Elena is 96 years old. When she was 74 years old, she experienced Parkinson's disease. The disease was severe and rapidly worsening. Her son-in-law, who happens to be also a doctor and researcher on melatonin, started to supplement her with melatonin that he produced in his laboratory. After 20 years taking melatonin, Elena is now lively and active, and she doesn't show any of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. She lives her life perfectly healthy and free from Parkinson's disease. Furthermore, her skin is as soft and virtually wrinkle-free as it was 20 years ago! |
